Konya Secondary School

Over the last year, Public Spectacle has raised funds to help complete the construction of Konya Secondary School, located in a small village North East of Lake Victoria. In the past, due to poverty, illiteracy, and HIV/AIDS, students who scored well on the national exams and were selected into secondary schools were often unable to attend; secondary schools are mostly boarding schools far from home and very expensive. The result was a large population of youth with no future schooling or job opportunities. This combination of boys and girls without future endeavours can perpetuate violence.

Public Spectacle teamed up with the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of Konya Primary School to upgrade a section of the primary school to secondary level and accommodate approximately 180 secondary students. The main objective of Konya Secondary School is to give high quality education and equal opportunities to both boys and girls from poor families, thus making them better citizens of their country. This project especially benefits the under privileged orphans and those from poor families. With a secondary education, these pupils will be able to compete in Kenya's highly challenging and ever more technical job market.
