Why there are two
of us
Public Spectacle's work is rooted in the conviction that
partnership is vital to achieving sustainable social change. After all, we have
a very difficult task at hand: intimate partner violence is a problem that has
been silenced, perceived as a private matter and reinforced through cultural
norms to the point that it has become tolerable and even clung to. Jaime
Rothbard and Liz Odongo merge their unique talents to develop creative approaches
to drawing attention to the prevalence of intimate partner violence and fostering
discussion.
Jaime Rothbard
Jaime’s exceptional ability to tell a story through poetic
rhyme, including issues surrounding gender roles, respect, human rights and the
beauty of women, relates to the experiences of many. Her inspiration stirs
emotions and offers people the confidence to express their own voices. Jaime
brings an energy to our partnership that continuously seeks networks to promote
innovation and developmental growth. Her dedication to social change strives to
balance creativity with pragmatism. Her enthusiasm is demonstrated through her
commitment to volunteerism in issues spanning through the intersection of
women, health, the criminal justice system and the environment.
Liz Odongo
In addition to Public Spectacle, Liz
is the Training Director at the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence where
she designs and facilitates trainings for Coalition members, local service
providers and law enforcement and volunteers with the Abused Persons Program in
Montgomery County, Maryland. Past positions include Domestic Violence Systems
Advocate and Educator at the Women’s Center and Program Officer in the Global
Health, Population and Nutrition Department at the Academy for Educational Development.
Liz obtained her Master’s Degree in
International Education and Training from American University and is informed
through her international work and travel experiences, including serving as a
Peace Corp Volunteer in Guyana and an exchange student in Venezuela.
